EASY ASSIST
|
the STORY
I originally invented this product for our department’s endless invalid assist calls. But over the last couple years, my crew and I have used it to lift naked poopy patients from bathtubs, an over-sedated man from a dentist chair, an elderly man tangled up in his walker, and my live-in elderly parents after countless falls. Trust me, I know how useful this tool will become for you.” -- Lt. Justin LeDoux, E-O4/Firefighter, EMT and Inventor
The Easy Assist was invented to give firefighters a tool to lift patients and use proper lifting techniques. The Fire Service will always need to lift and transfer patients - but we don't need fancy harnesses with belts and clips - we need simple, efficient and easy. The process of lifting is relatively simple and when we can slide the patient to a better position and lift with minimal back and shoulder strain, fewer back injuries will occur.
The Easy Assist also provides a better experience for the patient. Patients, especially if they are elderly, will many times cringe and wince when EMS providers bear hug or tug on their shoulders to lift them. The lifting process should not be just as painful as the fall. The Easy Assist will do most of the work and firefighters will only need to stabilize the patient by their shoulders during the lift. We have heard from patients and families that being lifted with the Easy Assist has been the first time they haven't felt pain when being lifted.
